Abstract
Purpose: This study, based on the 2020 National Survey of Living Conditions and Welfare Needs of Older Koreans, was conducted to identify the factors associated with Cognitive Dysfunctionamong elderly individuals living alone in South Korea.

Methods: The study was a secondary data analysis using a cross-sectional study design utilizing data from 3,117 elderly individuals living alone in South Korea. Cognitive function and Cognitive Dysfunction were assessed using the Korean version of the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE). Binary logistic regression analysis was used to estimate the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) of cognitive impairment.

Results: The research findings indicate that several factors have an impact on cognitive decline among elderly individuals living alone. These factors include gender, age, education level, subjective health status, depressive symptoms, physical activity, muscular strength, unmet healthcare needs, body mass index (BMI), nutritional management, activities of daily living (ADL), and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL).

Conclusion: This study highlights various factors that influence cognitive decline among elderly individuals living alone. The findings emphasize the need for a comprehensive approach to promote cognitive health in this population. Interventions should address physical activity, nutritional management, and assistance with ADL and IADL to enhance the cognitive well-being of elderly individuals living alone.
